Not all fonts use the same amount of ink. Using certain fonts can result in ~15% in savings when printing many routine memos, outlines, and other "non-presentation quality" correspondence, compared to other, "standard" fonts.

Having IT personnel and USG employees switch to ink-sparing fonts on a routine basis could save hundreds of thousands of dollars in notoriously expensive printer inks.

Another way of saving CBP and the Dept. of Homeland Security more money with purchasing new Samsung Laser Printers for $45.00 and laser ink cartridges for $36.87 each. They are highly rated by users and reviews from CNET.com. We currently spend approx anywhere from $300-500 per printer and approx $100.00 per ink cartridges. Stop printing the ones until the stock plie of coins goes down, to the point the stockpile is "normal" inventory. Then restart printing of the dollar bill if you must. Just stopping the presidential coin program is not going to do anything for the coins in storage right now.

And I have often asked for dollar coins or half dollars a the bank and they say they dont have any. They can't circualte if you can;t get them.... more »

We could reduce the amount of paper we buy if we change all printers in the federal gov't to print DOUBLE SIDED vs. only printing on one side per sheet. This could be done by having IT set all printers to default to print on both sides of paper (employee could manually switch to single sided if needed).
