For approvals not requiring a signed paper record, eliminate the need for routing paper copies of documents to be approved for signatures. Instead, expand the use of verified electronic signatures that will eliminate 1) the need to produce hard copies of documents for review, and 2) the need to produce and store hard copies of approval forms with signatures.

Converting communications between our Mine Safety and Health (MSHA) Coal District Office and coal mine operators and union representatives to electronic format with electronic signatures could save money in postage, paper, and copier costs. Our Doctors have multi layered login/passwords that work in CPRS software for writing prescriptions for controlled substances such as oxycodone. In spite of the Doctor's electronic signature in the system, we are still printing out hard copy on each prescription that indicates that it has been electronically signed, and then paging the Doctor to come and physically sign the hard copy of the order that he/she has already... more »
