Currently, the Forest Service uses two main methods of hiring employees: USAJOBS and AVUE Services. USAJOBS is the more comprehensive website. AVUE has less flexibility, does not allow searches for "virtual" jobs, and frequently does not even allow listing where a particular job is located, making job searches and the application process unnecessarily complicated and frustrating. Our agency deals with many applicants that we assist for rent and many times the HUD applicants rent out the home that HUD assists them with and we pay them rental assistance! This is not only a duplication of benefits but a waste of money. I would like to have HUD do periodic checks or have a way for our agency to check on the homes and the household compositions to avoid them getting double benefits from the government.... more »

Require the passport to be printed at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Eliminate the need for GPO to print any secure documents. Engraving and Printing has the infrastructure of resources to produce the passport.

Remove all food inspections duties from all of the variuos Agencies, and create one Food Safety Agency (Food Safety Administration) who's only mission is food inspection. This would eliminate all the confusion, duplication and conflict of interest that exists in the current set up.

Often times there is a long delay in processing forms. If a new form is issued prior to the acceptance of the information submitted on an old form, it requires the submission of the same data on a new form. This duplicates efforts both on the person/entity submitting the form and the receiving agency who is processing these forms.

There have been many comments about saving paper. This will not happen unless it is mandatory, from limiting the number of printouts for each employee to disabling the cover sheet on printed documents – no one should be printing cover sheets. Make all fax machines computerized, which allows faxes to be received and sent online. Mandate that all meetings are paperless – no agendas, copies of documents, etc., can be used.... more »

There are three major acquisition agencies that provide facility design, construction & management services for the Federal Government. These are GSA, ACOE and NAVFAC. There is extensive duplication of resources across these three agencies that would be eliminated if consolidated into one agency. Both the "military" organizations of ACOE and NAVFAC should be eliminated and the workload shifted to GSA.

Within the Washington, DC or National Captial Region (NCR), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through its varies agencies and sub-components, operates several disparate operations centers to manage workflow needed to protect our national security. Currently, an awardee of grants or loans from multiple programs or agencies is required to submit separate reporting schedules for each individual instance of an award. Just as we have the Standard Form family, there should be a centralized reporting form that is modular and has data fields tagged in XLM format for various agencies.
