Military

All branches of the military have different uniforms that are worn on a day to day basis for example ABU and ACU. My idea for saving money would be to adopt one uniform for all branches of the military. The only distinction would be the name tape on the uniform, i..e blue for Air Force, black for Army.
I beleive this would help cut spending for the military by cutting coastly contracts with different vendors for different... more »

Consolodate MWR HQ's to make one service independent Joint MWR

Establish a central Joint Service MWR (Morale Well-Being & Recreation) Command that is capable of serving all bases and all services similar to how AAFES serves all the bases retail needs. There are 5 separate service MWR HQ commands such as MCCS, Air Forces Services Agency, Army MWR, Coast Guard MWR and Navy MWR. Many of these departments have many company and field grade officers supporting running their departments... more »

Reducing educational costs without reducing educational benefits

In an effort to keep educational opportunities at the current rate for our Airmen, I recommend only covering the general education courses required for a CCAF degree from a community college where tuitions rates are remarkably lower. According to the College Board website “Public four-year colleges charge, on average, $7,605 per year in tuition and fees for in-state students. The average surcharge for full-time out-of-state... more »

Re: "Organizational Efficiencies"

How can we streamline the US Air Force when we don't even know who works where? Only about 80% of military members have a valid position number in the manpower system. Of the existing position numbers, more than one person can be slotted against the same position. For civilians the accuracy rate is even worse. We have FOAs and DRUs to hide manpower on headquarters staffs, flights and squadrons that do MAJCOM-level... more »

OHA to BAH System for OCONUS

All OHA needs to switch to the BAH system. This would drive the OCONUS housing market to be more competitive, with massive benefits to the Air Force, many benefits to the service members, and even, to a lesser degree, some benefits to the local community. Members have absolutely no incentive for saving the Government money under the OHA system.

Short term estimated savings in Guam alone: $45,000,000+ per year

Long term... more »

Consolidate/Eliminate Air Force Inspection Teams or Create “Stan

The Air Force (AF) has multiple agencies that perform inspections that overlap and are unnecessary. These different agencies vary from squadron level all the way up to Headquarters (HQ) AF level with everyone in between needing to put their two cents in. This often causes conflicts in which guidance is to be followed as everyone has their own interpretation on the multiple sources of guidance.

The AF has been going... more »

Service Branch Consolidation

We need to reduce the reduncy amongst the military branches. Currently, all branches provide their own security and their own air support.

The Army should grow to support and focus on Land Force activities, such as base defense. The Navy should be focusing on protection via sea. The US Military has four seperate Air Forces. Why?The role of the Air Force should be Air Support. Whether it's via moving cargo and people... more »

SAVE MILLIONS PER YEAR BY ELIMINATING WASTED BAH!

There are over 30K mil couples (one mil member married to another) on active duty in the USAF. Both spouses are receiving untaxed Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). One of the member’s is receiving BAH at the “single” rate (i.e. they have a spouse and/or child) rate, while the other is also receiving BAH at the “single” rate. This is obviously necessary, if they are stationed in separate locations. However, if they are... more »

United Agencies = Cost Savings + Improved National Security

Overall Goal

Instead of different military and Government agencies( Navy, USCG, Army, Air Force ) trying to be self sufficient and wanting to have/own various assets to meet their mission needs, these agencies should work together, share and co-ordinate their resources and assets, so that if not as Individual agencies but when united they are self sufficient.

Issue:
Various Government agencies own/acquire assets such... more »

Consolidate and Contract Military Recruiting

Conduct a survey to see if it is feasible to consolidate all military recruiting agencies (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard) into one contracted agency. Currently, with each branch having its own recruiting service, there is an enormous duplication of effort. Having one civilian contractor be responsible for all military recruiting would greatly streamline the process. This would result in an enormous... more »

Combine Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves

I suggest you merge the air force reserve component and air national guard under a single unified command structure - does away with two independent chains of command and would significantly reduce the overhead - offsets could be given to the active Air Force since they presently cannot meet their taskings at current manning levels. The army national guard in each state and territory has proven it can sufficiently provide... more »

Initial, Mid Career, and End of Service Career Counseling

The first component entails informing veterans of opportunities and programs that exist and can be beneficial to them in many ways. This starts by taking VA HR personnel and assigning them to sections of the nation where they are readily available to military bases to work with commanding officers to conduct periodic information sessions with group members. Information disseminated allows veterans to remain current on... more »

Flying hour program paradigm shift

Allow wing/group and squadron leadership throughout the Air Force to make smart and non-retributional decisions about flying hours. If a squadron/group/wing has achieved its training objectives for the FY, they should not be compelled to fly hours for the sake of zeroing a balance sheet.

On the flipside, leaders should not feel compelled to force poor ORM decisions while making extraordinary efforts to make up hours... more »

Military Health Care Contribution

Currently, active duty members receive 100% free health care and only pay a small amount for dependent/family coverage.

I propose that all military members (USA/USN/USMC/USAF/USCG) contribute between $960 to $2400 per year towards their own health care coverage, scaled so that junior members pay the least ($80 per month) and senior members pay the most ($200 per month).

With nearly 1.2 million active duty members,... more »

Military FRAUD WASTE and ABUSE!

No more ABU's that are heavy and made from Nylon and Cotton! These burn in fires and dont help when you go to any where hot. Even in a cold climate you need a jacket so they are useless. Also why every 5 years do i get a new uniform and then in another 5 a different one. During the war i have gone thru 4 different types (thats one every 2.5 years)! Stop the Fraud waste and abuse on this and make one multipurpose uniform... more »
