Phone Money for TDY

When on travel, one obtains five dollars a day for a max of $15 per week for "phone use." If an employee has a government-issued cell phone or blackberry, they would be unable to claim that phone travel expense. The government is already paying for one's phone/blackberry all year, why pay for "phone" when on travel? Of course if one could not get service or their cell/blackberry broke while on TDY and they had to pay... more »

Reduce administrative obstacles for organizing meeting

To facilitate setting up inter-agency meetings, open up access to outlook calendars for all federal employees. I work at NIH but I work closely with many other federal agencies both within and outside of HHS. Every time we need to organize a phone call or a meeting we need to set up a doodle poll to find a time when everyone is available (I can access the outlook calendars of others at NIH but I can't for those outside... more »

Eliminate Elective Surgeries for Inmates

I have worked in the prison system for over 10 years and I have to question why we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars performing elective surgeries on inmates that have lived with their conditions for years. Most all employees in the Department of Justice, and possibly other Federal agencies, are designated a desktop computer (monitor(s), keyboard, and mouse), Blackberry, and laptop computer. Many employees that receive a laptop may work from home 2 or 3 times per year. This a potentially an enormous and wasteful expense. Not only are laptops potentially expensive to purchase, but IT offices must set up each laptop and... more »

STOP End of Year Bonus

Though this may make me wildly unpopular; stop End of Year Bonuses. True everyone likes extra money however; the greater good for America is being sacrificed for each of us to receive a small bonus. Let’s face it, on “average” every civil servant gets maybe $700 totaling in the millions; funds that could be better used applied to the debt or elsewhere. I’m certainly not a rich civil servant but I have a roof over my head,... more »

Eliminate Retroactive SSI

We should not be giving retroactive needs based benefits. Logically it makes no sense to give retroactive benefits for a program that is intended to meet CURRENT and basic needs. In addition, we could save agency time and money by not having to conduct pre-effectuation reviews. It takes a lot of agency time and money to develop the income and resources and living arrangements for retroactive benefits. We have to control... more »
