FEDERALLY MANDATED (4 DAY ONLY!!) WORK WEEK POLICY

Going to a 40 hour work week with four ten hours days a 10/4 schedule would allow the same amount of work to get done to save money in all kinds of ways... in energy, gas (globally), highway congestion(in CONUS), lights, heating or cooling, janitorial services, security, possibly other arease as well. We just held a recent IG audit and the auditor asked if you had 1 single thing that could improve our organization what... more »

Stop using business models

Is there an industry that governs? Can we really have an "acceptable" mortality rate? Can we have universal mandates and then complain about underachievement? No, unless we write off portions of the population. Business should be about profit. Governance is not. Wealth and well being, securities and security are apples and oranges.

So many studies, charts, metrics, and training is geared to applying practices that... more »

Save $1.4 Billion in contracts, Eliminate mandatory PT sessions!

Eliminate mandatory PT sessions. On average 2 hours per day, 3 times a week, 52 weeks a year is given to every AF member to maintain fitness levels. By eliminating this time the Air Force would reclaim a low estimated 98,779,200 man hours annually. This figure does not include savings from medical bills from injuries, and man-hours wasted by USAF safety offices investigating sprained ankles and knee injuries.

Resource Accounting Reform and Expansion

In the office of systems we're required to account for our entire day by reporting to a system called Resource Accounting. It took us all a while, but we're starting to see the benefit of this accounting when it comes to project resourcing and estimating, as well as tracking who is doing work on a given project, and staying within the resource budget. However, we're the only office doing this. The sponsoring components... more »

Retire the B-1B

I LOVE the BONE, but it has no use (and my buddies fly it). In a tactical capacity, it's too big to bed-down without runway improvements, etc. Since PGM (Precision Guided Munitions) came out, it really doesn't do a role any better than an F-15E (1 bomb, 1 kill) and in a strategic role... well, I don't think we're ever going to nuke anyone but if we do we have the B-2A and ICBMs still (and TLAMS). Great jet, but it's... more »

Mandatory DRMO use

The Gov., DoD in particular has a DRMO system for liquidating or reassigning used equipment. Although the idea is good, I have noticed that the DRMO is often ignored by the DoD agencies when it comes time to acquire equipment. For one example, my base waited 2+ years & spent @ $600K to acquire a new crane. My base is @ 40 mi. from a DRMO through which at least 6 apparently useable cranes went to sale by DRMO in that... more »
