Desktop Collaboration

Instead of spending massive amounts of money for high end teleconference systems the govt should use webcams when possible. For example my workplace pays for thousands of Tandberg licenses and very expensive VTC equipment instead of allowing us to use a 10 dollar webcam. We already have social network programs installed on the network which allows for webcam collaboration.

Office of Director of National Intelligence

Encourage use of existing Collaborative Communication tools

There are not many government wide video conferencing systems. One is the Tandberg VTC system. The equipment is overpriced, proprietary, and so are the licences. Literally thousands of dollars per unit.

This could be ideal for conducting short seminars or other small-group meetings.

These hearings are administrative in nature and published regulations already allow for these hearings to include telephone testimony, so adjusting to video teleconferencing... more »

Citizenship and Immigration Process / Travel

There are two major issues I believe can save the government not only money, but on the amount of security violations.

1. The current process of processing citizenship applications within United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is archaic. The current process requires hard-copies of applications, personal information and other information to be physically mailed out and stored for applicants. This... more »

Mandatory VTC

In the DC area (and other urban areas with many nearby DoD facilities, like South Korea and Germany), make it mandatory to VTC any meetings that are administrative or recurring in nature. My former job had weekly staff meetings at the Pentagon, but many of our senior leaders worked in Fairfax, VA. Each week, "the boss" wanted to see the senior/division heads in person. He said "virtual presence is as good as actual... more »
