Let us buy cheaper non-government contracted flights for travel

We are currently required to buy government-contracted airline tickets that are 2-3x more expensive than the tickets I could purchase on my own. This is done because some travel is often cancelled or rescheduled and the contracted tickets allow this, but travel is often extremely unlikely to be cancelled, changed or rescheduled. For these cases, substantial cost savings (often thousands of dollars per ticket) could be... more »

Cost Effective Travel

Allow employess to, at least, try to utilize travel search engines like Kayak and Expedia. If the savings is there then take it. Along with that the employee should understand that there is more risk involved if the travel were to be canceled. Therefore, this would motivate the employee to proceed with travel plans. Once travel is completed that employee should be awarded with a percentage of the savings. This would... more »

Allow Airfare reservations outside E2 and save big bucks!

For those of us who frequently travel, it is very frustrating to knowingly pay $369.40 for a flight (from San Francisco to Burbank, CA.) that can be purchased online for $244!

That's a savings of $125.40 for booking the exact same airline on the exact same date - the difference? Doing it online and outside of E2!

Imagine that savings times thousands of Federal employees that travel frequently!

Save Government Dollars on Travel

Why do we send 4 or 5 people to an entrance conference. I suggest just sending the Senior Auditor and Auditor-In-Charge. If where you are going is less then a 6 hour drive then drive instead of flying. This is especially true when your airfare is 4 times that of larger airports. Let us use whatever travel source we can to save money. GovTrip is not the cheapest on airfare. When 2 or 3 people are going to the same... more »

Travel Away From Waste!

In this day and age where many government employees have travel credit cards, and the ready access to travel websites, requiring that travel be arranged through a contractor such as Sato Travel is a total waste of money. Let those who do not have a travel card, or who have possible cancelation considerations use them, but do not require this of all employees. In addition to their contract fee, they are getting about $20... more »

Review government contract airfares

Suggestion: Review the contract air fare pricing agreements for flights with one or more connections and determine if there is a widespread problem with severe over payment of airfares when an airline flight involves one or more connections.

Background: 1. Currently, GovTrip air travel fares for flights that require a connection are sometimes unreasonably expensive. In one case last month, the government-negotiated... more »

Renegotiate Air Carrier Contracts

Contract flights from Washington, DC, to USG training facilities in Columbia, SC and Brunswick, GA seem much higher than they could be negotiated. They are approx $650-1000, and hundreds of USG employees take these flights each month (conservative estimate). If the contracts cannot be renegotiated, perhaps government agencies with aircraft could fly "charter" flights on Mondays and Fridays to these locations.
