Stop Minting Penny and Nickel

Call it the Small Change Act, the most a person would ever have to contribute on a single transaction would be 9 cents.

I once read that the cost of making the penny and nickel, both outweigh the actual value of the coin.

My proposal is similar to what some banks are starting to offer, in a keep the change program.

Have one source of data that Fed employees can use to find out information about anyone. This could be available from our computer desktop. This source, could have various levels of security clearance, and have a system like "Clear" or "Lexis Nexis" where various information would be provided depending on the needs of the agency. Evaluate those on SS to see if they can work...

Some people getting a check can surely work. Maybe create programs that would produce something like a sheltered workshop for them to get there check or eliminate their check all together.

Just having people show up and learn for 2 hours a day would be something they could do. They could be educated on responsible spending, dietary needs, etc. The better they take care of themselves the better the less they would... more »
