Use National Guard and Reserves to protect the boarder

We could set up military camps along the southern border to protect our boards against terrorists and illegals. Let them use their annual training time to help actually protect our country instead of wasting it. This would be money very well spent and help to protect the citizens of this country.

Internet Service for Teleworkers

Reimburse teleworking employees for internet service. This will not only encourage more teleworking, but also encourage those employees who have to pay extra for high-speed service to do so, in order to save time in sending/receiving internet correspondence. For example, a document that one rural employee recently had to upload remotely to the workplace server took over an hour; with higher speed internet, this would... more »

STOP PROMOTING, WHEN YOU SHOULD BE TERMINATING

Quit promoting individuals who cause problems, and terminate them.

Not only are you just causing more trouble for the section, agency, or department they are promoted to, you are also increasing their pay. and continuing to pay them for years, then they retire and you further continue to pay them.

Some installations (and also public lands) have cell phone carriers who lease out land to have cell phone towers on them. Require that a provision of the lease be to allow the government cell phones and blackberries at that particular area to have free coverage on that providers network.

Old Fashion Mail Service

I think we need to take a few steps back and do mail the old fashion way. It would be acceptable and money saving to have postal boxes for neighborhoods much like they do with condos. This is much like the old town post office with boxes that you had to go to and get your mail. No more mail to the front door unless you are disabled.

This would save hundreds of thousands monthly on gas and walking time.

Fed Employee Leave Without Pay for National Service

Establish a formal program to allow Feds to take leave without pay to perform national service such as Peace Corps, Vista, and Americorps. Currently, this is an agency by agency decision, not a standard policy. Making this a formal program would allow Feds to voluntarily give up their salaries in order to serve (in the example of Peace Corps, for a period of 27 months) while also assuring that they would have a job... more »
