Virtualize to the Greatest Extent Possible

I managed a virtualization project that ended in June 2011. We virtualized our entire SAP landscape that was across 22 physical SPARC systems and over 90 zones. We consolidated into 4 X86 servers using Citrix XenServer and Red Hat Linux. XenServer is less expensive than VMWare and performs just as well if not better.
