Online credit card account access and bill payment

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
The ONLY bill I have that still issues paper bills (2 pieces of paper and 2 envelopes) and has no online access to check my account or pay my bill is my JPMorgan Chase government credit card I use for travel expenses. Not only is this a waste of paper, but also a waste of my time. At least if I don't want to waste MORE paper with a check and stamp, there is an option to pay by phone, but it takes me several minutes to... more »

Inmate Pay is a waist of $$ Paper 2.6 million copies each year

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
1. Paper waist 2.6 million pieces a year

I work for the Bureau of Prisons and we currently have 217,000 inmates all of which are required to work a job. Every month we calculate pay on the computer for the inmates and every month we print pay sheets. So that is 217,000 pieces of paper every month, 2,604,000 pieces of paper every year and the number is growing. Which is just a waist of paper not including the ink... more »

Stop printing out our names!! And the Use of Printing Quotas

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Every time I passed by the recycling bin next to the office printer, I often see piles of paper in there that are not documents from work but rather the pages with people’s name and the document’s title. This is such a waste of ink and paper because most people just throw them away. I suggest adding an option as we print from the computer where we can choose whether we want that first page of our name and document’s title... more »

Eliminate Paper Payroll Stubs

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

Currently federal agencies mandate electronic payroll deposits. On the flip side, many still send out paper payroll subs.

I would like to see a federal mandate to make all payroll stubs electronic. This would save postage and paper costs while simultanelously expediting these notices to all federal employees.

Decrease File Folders and Storage Cost

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

Eliminate the need of multitude subject/case and file/folders codes, pertaining to the same project or contractor. Instead create one file for projects, contractors, etc, under one subject classification codes, consisting of all records related to project. This would cut spending cost on folders, shipping, and storage space at records centers.

Provide IT departments tablet units, such as Cisco Cius, Apple IPAD, Samsung Galaxy or Blackberry Tablet units which may be used to load presentation and other meeting materials on to stop the use of handouts in meetings. Tablets with wireless capability not only eliminate the handout paper, but also the note taking papers which either clutter desks or fill recycling containers.

Kick the Can, USA!

As summer interns in the Region 9 office of the Environmental Protection Agency, it has been exciting to see that EPA practices what it preaches! One of the best sustainability initiatives in the San Francisco office is to replace personal trash bins with larger bins in communal areas of each floor. This simple act saves money, reduces landfill waste, and gently encourages recycling.

In the EPA’s San Francisco office,... more »

Eliminate paper performance plans and reviews

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

Instead of printing a performance plan for review, then another with changes for signature, then a copy with signatures, then a copy for annual review and so forth, provide online performance plans, with electronic password protected signatures which go right into eopf.

Paper & Postage Reduction Cost - Dual Notice Requirement

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Currently, any correspondence to taxpayers who file a joint return with the IRS require separate notices to the husband and wife. This results in additional costs for paper, printer, toner, postage, envelope, and other associated expenses.

While this requirement should not be eliminated entirely, the requirement should revise to allow married filing joint taxpayers to sign a waiver allowing examiners, collection officers,... more »

Save over 2,000,000 pieces of paper annually

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Every month the BOP prints a pay sheet for inmate pay. Since there is over 200,000 + inmates in the BOP, and the number is growing. All of the inmates are supposed to work while in prison that adds up to a lot of paper and ink. The pay is figured on the computer and the money is electronically deposited in the inmate trust fund/ IPP account. The only reason for printing the pay sheet is to show the inmate what he/she... more »

Unnecessary waste of paper

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

Here at TSA we shred paper everyday. I see a large majority of it coming from alarm reports, maintenance files and weekly briefings. Why are we not utilising our computers more for all this. When the information is old or simply not required anymore all you have to do is DELETE rather than shred. This is such a waste of our planets resources as well as the tax payers money.

Stop Vote by Mail.

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

So states allow voting by mail and have removed the polling places. Make voting eclectic or stop using paper. People say voting by mail has increased the amount of people voting but if you can’t get off you conch and come to a polling place, you shouldn’t be voting. Have computer at the polling place, this would cut down on paper and ballet counters. You could know who won in a few minutes versa hour, or even days.

Send VA Letters Electronically

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Each Day, The Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) sends thousands of letters to veterans and their dependents. The current system mandates hard copy letters to every veteran.

With the advent of electronic mail (e-mail), and Secretary Shinseki's goals to transform VA into a 21st Century organization, eliminating the claims backlog by 2015, I suggest that optional e-mail communication between veterans and VA be established.... more »

Less paper waste via electronic alerts of chart orders

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Electronically alert clerks about scheduling needs, rather than automatically printing orders.

At this VA medical center, any time an order (e.g., labs, clinic appt, xray) is entered in the electronic patient chart (GUI/CPRS) it is automatically printed. It prints near the staff who enter the appointments. The purpose is to alert clerks that an appt needs entered in the appt software (CPRS). Often it may only be a... more »
