Increase the Morale of Federal Employees

The morale of Federal Employees is low. We work hard to serve the Public, yet we feel unappreciated. We do not receive praise for good work, we work overtime because the budget cuts don't allow for the hiring of more of us; our pay has been frozen despite inflation and rising health care costs....A happy employee is a more productive employee. We need more pay! We meed to feel appreciated!

Increasing productivity by limiting distracting blast e-mails

Our workdays are frequently interrupted by "blast" emails intended for broad audiences. These emails serve as random interruptions that break up the rhythm of our work-tasks, and reduce our attention span and productivity. There are many peer-reviewed scientific journal articles supporting the negative effects of random distractions on attention and productivity, including reductions of our energy and efficiency. This... more »

Create DHS Ombudsman Office to deal with abuses of power

Create DHS Ombudsman Office to deal with abuses of power that decrease efficiency. This office could address unprofessional behavior that is not criminal. The mandate of this office would be to champion employees who have tried to make improvements or changes to the workplace and have met with organizational resistance brought about by personal bias, laziness, or possibly by efforts made to cover incompetence or illegal... more »

More Commuter Busses

Commuter Busses are a great way to go and come to work! Who really needs to drive to get into DC and congest these streets? Washington/Baltimore has now become the #1 worst traffic in the Nation (according to WTOP Radio--Chris Core). There is no need for all this! The government already subsidizes these busses, but they do not do much to encourage these practices. Each filled Commuter Bus can take off approximately 50... more »

TELEWORK!!!!!!

We have been advised that Telework is both supported and encouraged by the Sec. of DOD and CMDR. in Chief. However, the loophole states that the final decision is left up to supervisors etc. There are other agencies(DLA) doing the exact same work and permitted to Telework, where as we NAVSUPWSS are not,, simply because the supervisors just don't like the idea. I live over an hour away from work and have asked for Telework,,... more »

Overseas Furniture

Most foreign service officers move into government furnished residences which - because of global contracts - are all furnished with almost identical pieces worldwide. Prior to arrival at Post the officers don't know what furniture they will have, nor what it looks like, nor does the Post ask what furniture the officer wants. This results in the government paying for furniture and moving costs, only to have the officer... more »

Consolodate MWR HQ's to make one service independent Joint MWR

Establish a central Joint Service MWR (Morale Well-Being & Recreation) Command that is capable of serving all bases and all services similar to how AAFES serves all the bases retail needs. There are 5 separate service MWR HQ commands such as MCCS, Air Forces Services Agency, Army MWR, Coast Guard MWR and Navy MWR. Many of these departments have many company and field grade officers supporting running their departments... more »

US Public Health Service (USPHS)

I recommend consolidating the USPHS into the US Navy (similiar to the Marine structure where they would fall UNDER the US Navy but remain a separate branch of service). They could be utilized at any DOD branch, all other government branches and some VA hospitals.

I feel that USPHS can be better utilized and with a more structured chain of command, better billet availability to ANY government branch, and expand service... more »

One More Day - the 32 Hour Work Week

Emphasize the option and benefits of working a 32 hour week (4 8-hour days) and cut salary costs by over 20%.

Many employees are unaware they are eligible to work this part-time schedule which would cut salary expenses by over 20% and give employees an extra day off. Permanent part-time employees still maintain almost all benefits and a part-time year is equal to a full-time year when calculating retirement tenure!... more »

Step Up UnmannedVehicle Tech to Minimize # of HumanCasualties

Increase R&D and deployment of Unmanned Vehicles (airborne, aircraft, seacraft, landcraft, any terrain) and remote-controlled mechanisms so as to minimize human deployment and to decrease the number of human casualties.

Decreasing the number of humans deployed will keep military family cohesion intact, improve military family happiness, and thereby increase military morale.

Decreasing the number of human casualties... more »

Enforce the Telework Mandate

By enforcing (really enforcing) telework for non-essential, eligible, and related personnel, the Government will save tremendously on the abundance of unused space, parking, transportation, electricity, fuel consumption, security, etc. We desperately need to ENFORCE this mandate which has the potential to cut costs significantly. Too many "old school" government personnel are inhibiting our advancement for a desire... more »
