Laptops only for applicable jobs

Switch from the model of having both a work desktop and a laptop for remote work to having just a laptop for both uses. Provide docking stations and other tools necessary. This will save a considerable amount of money as many in my agency are currently using both. Will facilitate mobility, flexibility, allow government employees to work when there is a shutdown, etc.

Issue laptops instead of desktop computers

Instead of purchasing desktop computers and then additionally issuing laptop computers, make the use of laptops as a primary computer the standard. If every employee had a laptop that latched into a port at their desk, it would make it much easier for employees to have telework capabilities because they could just take their workstation home. They have an assigned... more »

Computer Powersave option

Instead of having a screen saver, set the option to just turn off the monitor. Screen savers use as much energy as a screen in use, but by turning it off after an extended amount of no use (10 min) automatically, energy can be saved, and in turn money. With this setting change, there is no need to manually turn off/on the monitor, as it automatically turns off and back on. This is already being advertised to the general... more »

Remove Desktop Computers, Install central Office level servers

As everyone is aware, computers are everywhere. What most people do not realize is how little your computer is being used. Like the human brain most computers are only using a fraction of their available power. Other computers have too little memory or are kind of slow.

What can be done is to do away with the individual desktops and install a large, powerful central computer for multiple users. The theory works like... more »
