In my agency, we have annual "learning colleges" where colleagues present information on topics of interest to the agency. It would aid in knowledge retention and information transfer if ALL conference presentations were recorded and maintained by a designated entity within each agency. Document retires knowledge of the Computer System for New hires.

We know there has been lots of people’s retiring from all departments. Since I joined IRS late September 2010, I have seen over 6 people retire in my Branch only, out of 60 people and only 1 or 2 people were hired/transferred in. There are still people on my Branch which will be retiring soon.

Capture Knowledge from Retiring/Exiting Staff

Agency Staff are leaving at an accelerating rate, and with their departure goes a substantial amount of institutional knowledge and expertise. I propose to find ways to document the experiences and capture that knowledge and expertise prior to their departure through a combination of incentives and development of an infrastructure to develop, house and disseminate that knowledge.
