Consolidate DHS Seized Property Operations

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Currently; Border Patrol, CBP, FPS, ICE, TSA and the US Coast Guard have their own facilities, policy, processes, and specialist personnel to handle seized property and contraband.

By consolidating all of these facilities and processes into one DHS seized property system, cost savings and efficiency will occur.

Why does ICE need a seized property vault in the same geographical location as CBP?

Consolidate the ICE FDL and CBP FDAU

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

The ICE Forensic Document Laboratory and the CBP Fradulent Document Analysis Unit essentially perform the same function, albeit from two different perspectives. The FDL examines fraudulent documents, the FDAU examines fraudulent document trends. These people should be working in the same unit at the very least, and there is quite a bit of overlap between the two which could result in trimming some costs.

St. Elizabeths - Stop DHS HQ consolidation with USCG

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Reconsider total costs of consolidation in terms of great costs of rehabilitating extensively decayed buildings with little national historical value. The Department, government, and tax payer will incur vast costs as a result of this rehabilitation, movement of large numbers of employees work spaces, loss of employees due to decreases in work-life balance, rehire costs, retraining costs, decreased efficiency, etc.... more »

PROPOSAL TO STREAMLINE THE NOTICE TO REMOVABLE ALIEN PROCESS

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Effecting the efficient removal of illegal aliens requires that ICE Enforcement and Removal Office (ERO) personnel look to various references that include but are not limited to U.S. Codes of Federal Regulations (CFR), international treaties, conventions and laws, agency policy and procedural manuals. The significance of this removal program responsibility is that it embodies the mission of ERO as a whole and overlaps... more »

Mandate that this site be uttilized

Mandate that the top 100 ideas at a minimum are forwarded to the involved agency executive for review and comment.

There are an extensive amount of valuable ideas here that may not score number one. It would be tremendous waste of effort if those below number one were not reviewed for consideration. We all have an idea or two here, we all put effort into this, what a waste if the ideas were simply deleted.

Mandate that... more »

Secure the border...

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Secure the border by vigorously enforcing current immigration laws and addressing the reasons why people illegally come to the U.S. (jobs and benefits).

CBP is fighting a losing battle to “secure the border” as long as ICE is free to pursue enforcement activities other than immigration and customs enforcement (which happens to be their name).

There should be no reason for ICE to investigate terrorist activities.
Terrorist... more »

Management being held accountable for Employees work ethic

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
If the Managers would be held accountable for the work ethic of some of their employees it would save a lot of money. There are some employees that come to work and earn much more money than they are worth. The employees do only what they are assigned to do and no more. There are many employees who have completed their workload in 4 hours, the other 4 hours they do as they please. There are also employees who do not... more »

Allow Border Patrol to conduct interior enforcement

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
The Border Patrol could quickly cut a significant portion of our resident illegal alien population if they were allowed to operate in the nation's interior. They know where many of the illegal aliens live, but aren't able to do anything about it due to being tied to the border itself. ICE/HSI currently has the mandate for interior enforcement, but doesn't have sufficient manpower or will to engage in serious interior... more »

Re-align the current CBP, ICE and TSA

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
First, the United States Border Patrol should be re-aligned with ICE/HSI with Border Patrol taking care of Border activity and ICE/HSI focusing on interior. If these two entities were merged you could eliminate a massive amount of redundant middle-management and improve the communications immensely because it would be the same agency.
Second, Customs and TSA should be merged together. Both of their respective jobs... more »

Streamlining the Immigration Court Process

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
I am a student volunteer at Immigration and Customs Enforcement in one of the Offices of the Principal Legal Advisor. We have Notices To Appear (in court) sent to us - thousands of them. Our shelves become full, and we are not able to attempt to approve many NTAs for over 2 years (this is for non-detained cases only).

It is not efficient for the many CBP/ICE offices in our district to send all the NTAs to one central... more »

Assign Asylum officers to every Sector

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Having Asylum officers in every Sector would allow credible fear cases and the like to be processed more efficiently while saving money avoiding detention costs.
Asylum officers can be on call within their respective sectors just like every other agency to respond to their relative cases. If an agency apprehends a subject that claims credible fear, an Asylum duty officer can be contacted and they can respond to interview... more »

Stop SSI benefits to convicted smugglers

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Seems simple. Stop giving SSI checks to convicted smugglers.
Unfortunately, it is not that simple. We apprehended and convicted an alien smuggler and also encountered his SSI check stubs as well as a recent receipt for $2,000+ wheels and tires for his car. We contacted SSI to cancel the SSI checks. They advised that if we provided proof that the subject was incarcerated, they would stop the SSI payments during his... more »
