Federal Employee Video Testimony

Routinely the DOJ and US Attorneys Office will subpoena Federal employees to testify in cases outside of the employee's geographical work area.

These cases can often be cross country in nature as currently my office on the West Coast is working to find funding to send an employee to the East Coast for under one hour of general background testimony.

A cross country flight and hotel for less than one hour of general testimony.... more »

Consolidate DHS Seized Property Operations

Currently; Border Patrol, CBP, FPS, ICE, TSA and the US Coast Guard have their own facilities, policy, processes, and specialist personnel to handle seized property and contraband.

By consolidating all of these facilities and processes into one DHS seized property system, cost savings and efficiency will occur.

Why does ICE need a seized property vault in the same geographical location as CBP?

Consolidate these facilities... more »

Disincentivize continuing participation in income-based programs

People should be discouraged from staying on welfare or Section 8 or any other income-based program indefinitely. We don't have to kick them off the programs, but let's encourage them to seek employment that earns them more money. We can do so by requiring them to contribute an increasing percentage of their income to covering the costs of the program.

For example, currently all Section 8 participants pay 30% of their... more »

Change the title of HUD's Partial Claim Mortgage

HUD's Partial Claim program is designed to give extra fiscal life to homeowners in fear of foreclosure. When HUD extends funds to cover the delinquency of the senior mortgage, it has a mortgage recorded as security. However, the title of the Partial Claim mortgage is "Subordinate Mortgage". Unfortunately, many of the county clerks recording the mortgages miss interpret "Subordinate" as "subordination", and as a result... more »

Allow for digital signatures on Multifamily Closing Documents

Closing documents are currently in paper form and require hand signatures. This often requires the expense of overnighting the documents to the owners. If you have people in different offices working on a project, that involves more overnighting documents. Keeping the documents in paper form also makes it harder to track down documents. Allowing all parties to digitally sign and email documents would speed the process... more »

Charge for scanning FOIAs and cancelled FOIAs

This agency currently does not charge for scanning FOIA information or work done on cancelled FOIAS. A person can spend hours on a FOIA that is almost complete, and will not be able to charge for any of the costs if the requester cancels before completion. If you cancel a work request with any other business, they are going to charge you for work already done. Requesters are allowed to ask for documents in electronic... more »

Prior to the creation of the DHS, the former US Customs Service was the primary entity for inspecting inbound and outbound foreign cargo at US International airports as well as compliance and control of related bonded facilities.

The events of September 11, 2001 resulted in the creation of DHS as well as the TSA with the consolidation of the Customs Service into CBP. Since 2001 the TSA has grown and expanded in mission... more »

Mandate that this site be uttilized

Mandate that the top 100 ideas at a minimum are forwarded to the involved agency executive for review and comment.

There are an extensive amount of valuable ideas here that may not score number one. It would be tremendous waste of effort if those below number one were not reviewed for consideration. We all have an idea or two here, we all put effort into this, what a waste if the ideas were simply deleted.

Mandate that... more »

Standards of Conduct for Low Income Section 8 Housing Assistance

The Housing Choice Voucher Program, or Section 8 housing (offered through the HUD) helps low-income individuals with rent payments. An individual can choose to live in a privately owned rental property in a better area of town and only pay about 30% of the rent. In other words a low income family can live in a good neighborhood where rent runs $1,500 a month and only pay around $450 per month. The problem occurs when... more »

WATCH HUD HOUSING APPLICANTS CLOSELY

Our agency deals with many applicants that we assist for rent and many times the HUD applicants rent out the home that HUD assists them with and we pay them rental assistance! This is not only a duplication of benefits but a waste of money. I would like to have HUD do periodic checks or have a way for our agency to check on the homes and the household compositions to avoid them getting double benefits from the government.... more »
