Congress should set an example of fiscal prudence by instituting a needs test for salary and benefits. There is no reason why a multi-millionaire should expect the taxpayers to foot the bill for his or her healthcare or retirement, much less a salary while in office.
All escalators that are next to elevators should be shut off to conserve operating energy and maintenance costs. People are able to walk up a flight of stairs. If there is an elevator close enough to accomodate people who can't use stairs, the escalator is redundant. The exercise will also improve people's health, saving on health insurance costs.
Prohibit the use of tobacco products on ALL federal property, both owned and leased, indoors and outdoors. This idea should be implemented across ALL federal agencies. This will reduce litter, reduce healthcare costs, reduce health insurance costs, reduce fires, and allow people to breathe air free of tobacco pollution.
Reduce Congress, SES and GS 13 and above's health insurance plans to the level of the rest of the government employees.
