If essential personel are used in fiscal crisises, why not build days for essential personel only into the calendar? Nonessentials could get unpaid time off and essentials could practice running with a skeleton crew. We should tag certain jobs as essential and other nonessential so new hires could gauge furlough risk.
Why are we paying staff overtime for events and functions? They should leave work early one or two days that week so they when working at the event they will not go over 40 hours. It means a reduction in their primary job responsibilities, but aren't we responsible to cut spending? Overtime shouldn't be a right, and only given when neccesary.
When considering a furlough of government employees, those whose latest performance evaluation reflects anything lower than "satisfactory" should be the first to be considered. Unfortunately, the government has enough non-performing employees who are not adding any value anyway.
everyone will conserve oil on transportation to& from work and on government vehicles,
less traffic and potential accidents,
road and vehicle maintenance would be reduced,
