Stop providing personal printers for employees' desks

I am new to the government and was shocked to find out that I will have my own printer on my desk. This is a totally unnecessary cost to the taxpayers. Not only does it encourage excess printing using paper and ink since it is so "convenient", but it discourages healthy movement by employees by asking them to get up out of their chairs to retrieve something they printed. WI FI connectivity

The IRS just authorized WI FI installations for all Laptop computers. Since most Laptops already have wireless capability this made good sence. Why not make all computers WI FI connectable and do away with the rerouting and rewiring of landlines for computers inside all agencies conducting business.

Powerful Savings: Laptops vice Desktops

Our nation should adapt an Energy Conservation Law such as Japan has done. Looking at the results of Fujitsu, this adjustment will help our nation financially. I recommend we at least give it a shot with one of the smaller branches such as (Coast Guard) to see if such change would benefit our nations needs.

Remove Desktop Printers

Most desktops here at my office and six other office I provide I.T. services to have personal printers assigned to them when there is a network printer two cubes down. When adding up costs for toner and color cartridges across all agencies this amounts to an incredible amount of money. Costs associated:

1. Lump sum of printer cost ranging $50 to $500

2. Toner or printer cartridge cost ranging $45 to $150

Savings on unclassified cell phone/laptop/desktop expenses

I propose that the Gov't either gets completely out of the unclas cell phone/laptop/desktop business; or they get completely into the business.

This may sound contradictory, but please read on.

Conservatively, 95% of government employees have a personal cell phone and a personal laptop and/or desktop computer. Similarly, this same population has a monthly bill for cell phone and internet service.
