Currently, economic and financial data is collected at a variety of departments and agencies with many surveys overlapping (e.g. Census, BEA, BLS, Agriculture, etc.). We should move data collection, not data dissemination or analysis, to where collection methods could be standardized, overlapping surveys eliminated, staffing reduced and a greater utility of revenue employed. Sweeping changes to federal IT systems require a concomitant change in the way data is input.
Highly skilled, expensive employees are currently often the ones to enter data into the systems, diverting their attention from tasks that make better use of their time and abilities.

The quandary is that these same highly skilled individuals are responsible to assuring the accuracy of data entered.
