Manned Mission to Mars

Cancel all funding of NASA's planned manned exploration to Mars. The cost is projected to be in billions. If we had a balanced budget it would be worth pursuing, but we must simply prioritize our national objectives. The program may be better suited pursuing unmanned systems and robotics with the help of international funding to lower cost.

Procurement - Buying Locally Produced Goods and Services

Current policies and proceedures prevent agency from buying locally produced and manufactured products. Specifically, local paper mills can provide agency with paper, envelopes and other items at a much-reduced cost than can be acquired through current GSA methods. Allowing the agency to directly purchase these (and other) goods would not only save money, but decrease time of acquisition, paperwork and staff manhours.... more »

A Cost Effective way to Handle Investigations

The current system of any employee calling Internal Affairs does nothing, but really delays the system for real investigations. I do believe that it would speed up the process if the information was first sent up the Chain of Command and LER. This would speed up the process and keep non criminal issues at the port. Any employee that is under investigation for theft should be handled by the local ICE office. This will... more »

Significantly Limit Supervisor Discretion for Telework

Although DHS has telework policies in place, it follows the letter of the law, not the intent. On paper it appears that we have great telework flexibility, but in reality, our policies give Directors and managers complete discretion on whether or not to allow individuals to telework on approved CORE days. I would suggest that less subjective rules are implemented to determine telework eligibility.

Once telework... more »

Allow Employee Clearance Vetting to Transfer Across Components

Within DHS we have multiple offices and components yet if you wish to transfer to a position within DHS you still need to undergo another suitability clearance. The vetting process (background & clearance eligibility review) costs the taxpayers a considerable amount of money – not only for the investigation but also for the possible idle time spent by employees awaiting clearance results. The Office of Personnel Management... more »

Electronic Faxing

Daily, we receive requests from our public for benefit letters. Though we encourage our public to eServices to obtain this information, some customers request the information to be sent via fax. Accommodating these requests costs time and money. We could greatly reduce costs associated with paper, toner, fax maintenance, and down time to fax by converting to electronic faxing. Doing this would allow us to promote... more »
