As it stands now, the calling service centers are virtually useless and frustrate almost every single veteran that calls in.

My first suggestion is to create comprehensive digital copies of every claim file with a scan of every document of record. This is important because many RO's are still processing hardcopy claims based on "what's in the file." This would also help in general for claims processing.

Take care of existing claims before soliciting new ones

Outreach is a wonderful thing, and the people I know who do it are extremely dedicated and hard-working; they truly care about the people to whom they are reaching out, and they regularly go "above and beyond" to seek out every person who might be eligible to receive government benefits.

However, the number of existing claims is so huge that claims processors are swamped, and large backlogs keep growing larger.

Merge VA into DOD

Eliminate the VA as a separate entity, by rolling the Dept. of Veterans Affairs into the DOD, to provide care for all active duty forces, their families and Veterans.

Cost reductions include eliminating redundant department and services. Eliminating the VA central office in Washington DC.

Lower costs of supplies and pharmaceuticals due to the combined purchasing power of the VA and DOD.

Reduce claimant wait time with existing equipment & technology.

Problem: There are long waiting times for claimants in the field offices, waiting to complete applications for retirement, survivor, Medicare and disability claims.

SSA Claims/Backlog

I am a Claims Rep for SSA. Everyday I take claims that range from serious/terminal to plain erroneous. My idea, is that a form should be created that specifically identifies if this alleged disability will last longer than 12 months, keep them from earning income for 12 months and possibly result in death.
