Designate one lead agency for international development

President Obama should designate one lead agency for international development to avoid costly, contentious and time-consuming interagency coordination and potential duplication of activities. For the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, for example, the staffing and level of coordination needed for 5 or 6 different government agencies working on HIV in a single country is incredibly time consuming and wasteful.... more »

Revenue generation through energy load curtailment

Industry partners are taking advantage of an energy program they call load curtailment. In a nutshell, the load curtailment season runs from June to May typically, so we missed 2011. The company, agency in this case, would be given a sum of money to participate in this program by reducing energy use during peak periods when and if the power company requested the participant to do so. In the agreement, it allows the power... more »

Incentives for Saving

Every time a government employee has to travel on official duty we are forced to use SATO or some other agency designated travel service to purchase our mode of travel & lodging. I have in my possession a copy of a travel confirmation in which the airline ticket cost the taxpayers $1881.80. This ticket could have been purchased for approximately $1000.00 less online without going through SATO. When you add up all the... more »

Make all Federal Government facilities non-tobacco campuses

Restaurants, bars, hospitals, school campuses, state offices, other business have gone NO SMOKING. Smoking causes: dependency, cancer, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, bad breath, yellow fingers, wrinkles, is a major risk factor for heart problems/ stroke. More deaths are caused each year by tobacco use than by all deaths from HIV, illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders combined.... more »

Save $3.2 Billion: Army Organic Fixed Wing Close Air Support

In a March 1997 CBO report, “Reducing the Deficit Spending and Revenue Options,” DEF-16, “Make the Army Responsibility for Close Air Support (CAS),” the CBO proposed a revolutionary idea to decrease deficit spending. The report stated that transferring responsibility for CAS from the USAF to the Army would save the Department of Defense (DOD) $3.2 billion over 5 years in 1997 fiscal terms. Not mentioned in the report... more »

Save trust fund while stimulating economy

Less than one half of one percent of people collecting disability ever get off it. The number one reason clients at Vocational Rehabilitation do not move on to work, is because there are no jobs. Corporations are not creating jobs because they can make more money investing excess funds than creating jobs. EVERYTHING a corporation spends money on is tax deductable.

What if we gave all types of businesses a DOUBLE tax... more »

Learning & Training Collaboration

Here is my idea. The Learning and Training Community in the Federal Government is composed of all, or mostly all, Federal agencies. Each Federal agency provides and delivers the required supervisory training, leadership training, and technical training courses. However, each agency purchases many of these commonly delivered courses separately. The interagency Chief Learning Officer Council has started a trend to share... more »

IT Development

Many government agencys have duplicative IT development efforts going on within their Agency because the Agency's CIO does not have the authority or responsibility to oversee all Agency IT development efforts.

Make each Agency's CIO responsible for all IT development within the Agency. The CIO would receive all the Agency's IT funding. All IT efforts would have to be approved through the Agency's IT Configuration Control... more »

Share Security Check Information

I have worked for, or applied for several agencies in the federal government. It would be a cost saver and a team building experience to have the personnel security divisions to share the security checks and clearances information.

A central area to store the information would make it easier and quicker for personnel to be hired and on the job.

It can take up to a year to get some clearances done, so it would not... more »

I just wasted an hour looking for the submission I put in!

I just wasted an hour looking for the submission that I input several days ago because there is no search system to recall your message. I even used the keyword search. While looking through the pages, I saw hundreds of similar ideas. Instead of having that many ideas with a few “likes” If the site had a way to catalog similar ideas by keyword, the time wasted searching would be reduced, and a better count of feedback... more »
