Stop printing material for training

CECOS (Naval Civil Engineer Corps Officers School) provides printed manual to each class participant.

Eliminate the printed manuals. This will save money wasted on printing and assembling the manuals.

Have electronic file versions available. Suggest some format that allows note taking (for example, MS Word).

Though this suggestion focuses on CECOS, it is applicable to any training sessions that provide printed material.... more »

Eliminate on-site classroom instruction

CECOS (Naval Civil Engineer Corps Officers School) offers many classroom courses that are held at numerous locations.

Eliminate the expenses of hotel and plane fare for folks that travel to these courses.

Enable a virtual classroom via use of electronic collaboration and conferencing tools.

Reduce databases/increase data sharing

There is currently a cost saving process going on to consolidate data centers. My idea is related as it is to reduce the need for multiple databases from the start. Many databases were developed independently for a specific purpose. Often, over time that data is used for other purposes with new stakeholders. The data may be converged with other data sources to provide a better overview of a particular management desire.... more »

Notice your cafeteria vendor performance not up to par?

I can only speak for myself, but I have noticed that the onsite cafeteria vendor offerings and staff has declined throughout the year. Granted in my complex, some agencies have scaled back on employees, increased mobile work and alternative work schedules causing the vendor to cutback on costs. Eventually, the vendor will not be able to turn a profit and thus be forced to close their operation all together. My idea... more »
