ELIMINATE LEASE PAYMENTS FOR ALL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES IN

Simulate the economy by creating jobs, tax base, and eliminating lease payments. First, identify all Agencies currently paying to lease office space in subject area. Second, identify all vacant office space in subject area on government property (i.e., Walter Reed Army Base, Navy Annex, Coast Guard Island, etc). If necessary, build new office spaces on vacant government owned land thereby putting additional people... more »

Plan and Execute Governmet Budgets Based on Requirement

Many government organizations are "given" a budget and then tod to hurry up and spend or it will be "swept" meaning take away and lost and that whatever balance was lost will bededucted from next year's budget because it was obviously not needed. This method and cultue in government budgeting waste millions of dollars and encourages no employee to seek real financial training or work at developing a real budget. Budgets... more »

Debt Reduction Proposal

Build a private partnership between VA Hospitals and the private sector. Transfer VA hospital functions to the private sector giving veterans greater choices for their healthcare needs while reducing and or eliminating per diem and travel pay to get to the closest VA hospital. The private sector is already set up to handle all types of medical challenges, so why do we keep re-inventing the wheel? Private sector hospitals... more »

Cash Flow and Budget

Stop the historical waste of monies not spent during the budget year. Stop protecting our image of not being able to budget properly and allow moneies to be returned rather than spent or wasted. We are often required to budget large sums of money for a specific lease or contract that for many reasons, does not get completed. Rather than return that money, we are required to spend it. This happeded last year and we... more »

35 Hour Work Week

The country has an unbelievable budget deficit which will take years to fix. I would recommend that Federal government employees be put on a 35-hour per week schedule rather than a 40-hour week. The savings to the government would approximate $500 million/year. When the deficit is under control, return to the 40-hour work week.

STOP DOUBLE CHARGING MILITARY DEP FOR SCHOOL

I understand talking to several military members and I experienced myself that military members who are homeowners are paying a high price to educate their children in various states. Homeowners are paying property taxes which go towards support their local schools and DOD is also paying for those same students. Why is that? Military families are paying double to educate their children if they own a house in the community... more »

Sell Old NGA Building in Bethesda MD

OMB needs to look at the old NGA building in Bethesda with an eye to sell it to the public. The building is useless for government operations as it is in a costly area, inaccessible to public transportation, costly to maintain, and outdated infrastructure. The site is prime real estate for commercial or private use and should bring a decent profit for the government.

Elimination of Use of Travel Agency

Over the last several months, a "new" program was launched making it mandatory to use a travel program to create travel authorizations, including travel for hotels, etc. Over the last several months it has become apparent that this system is not user friendly nor cost efficient. At one point in time, travel agencies were necessary; but in the computer world, it is easier to find a competitive rate for air travel and/or... more »

Enforce Contracts To Perform Per SOW

Every year, contractors perform services for the federal government that are subpar, inadequate and a misuse of taxpayer dollars. The FAR and other statutes prevent governement employees from holding contractors acountable through denying payments or through termination of services. More specifically, NIB/NISH contracts become more difficult to hold accountable because of the nature of ensuring work for the challenged... more »

Economic stimulus

To help stimulate the economy, why not lower the home interest rates for people who are paying their bills. In these times of high gas prices, it would give them more disposable income. Besides, we've already bailed out the banks.

limit salaries of contractor executives.

With the contracting and procurment policy function in OMB, I'll place this here.

Limit the salaries of executives on cost plus contracts to that of say either a Congressman, or a Deputy Sectretary which ever is lower. That's for the TOP guy. For each step down in the contractor organization, the top salary is the next lower level of the Executive Schedule.

And oh yes, no "bounuses" to these guys, unless it comes... more »

All Federal & DOD employees and Military Personnel receive appraisals during each year at rating periods. Review all current forms. Revise or add new short statement on "Cost Savings" activites or results that civilians and military are contributing to. For example: USAF Enlisted Performance Report form shows: Block 4: Resource Management & Decision Making: A small line under it shows: "Consider Efficiency, Judgment,... more »

Easy savings

I sent this last year. The personal vehicle reimbursement is way too high!!! Even at $4 per gallon and a car getting 15 mpg, that cost is 26 cents. A 50% premium for personal expenses would save the government 10 cents per mile. That's about $100,000,000!!!!!
Keep in mind FTEs profit on using POV, so not only would we save this way, but encourage carpooling and use of gov't. vehicles.
