Federal Taxes

Simplify the current tax laws to require every individual and business with income to pay 10 percent of their income for federal taxes with absolutely no execeptions. Remove all current loopholes and make absolutely no exceptions for anyone or any business. This will in effect balance our budget over the next few years, eliminate the volumes of tax code, eliminate the need for tax refunds and owing taxes the IRS, elimate... more »

Pass HR 50 - Fair Tax Act

The Fair Tax replaces all federal, Social Security, and Medicare taxes from your check and replaces it with a consumption tax of 17%... it then gives you a monthly credit for taxes on food (based on family size and location). It then brings taxation to those who choose to opt out of the taxes (illegal’s, cash services, etc..) thus overall increasing the amount of taxes to pay this debt WE have without unfairly burdening... more »

Eliminate Production of the Penny

Stop production of the penny. It cost an estimated 1.79 cents to make one cent. With almost 30 million pennies made each year, this would save the federal government 30.79 million dollars a year. The coin is not accepted in most coin operated machines. There is enough pennies in circulation to maintain the financial exchange system of a .01 value.

Organize the SAVE website

This is not an idea to save money but to make it easier for us to vote on money saving ideas. There are currently about 2,800 ideas on the website. There is no way that anyone with a full time job can read through these ideas and vote on them. Can we please have categories (not just tags). For example, there are tons of people who are posting about airline and travel - have that be one category. There are tons of... more »

Stop Tax incentives for Big Profitable Corporate Business!

Seriously, GE,Fed Ex, Verizon...they all get PAID by us [taxpayers] in the form of Tax incentives-supposidly for job creation etc. But who are we fooling? Do they create any more jobs after the first few years? It's pure profit to the company. Take away the tax breaks or at LEAST restore the laws to close the loop-holes so obviously being corrupted.

Identity Theft

Identity theft is widespread. I work for the Internal Revenue Service. If a taxpayer has passed away there is no way a return filed a year later under that SSN should be accepted, processed, and a refund issued, yet it does happen. A law should be passed requiring all taxpayers to show proof of identity to the preparer before a return can be filed. Then, when the identity thief cannot prove they are the deceased individual,... more »

Borrow at Lower Interest Rates & Save $280 Billion per Year

The government borrows by selling mostly long-term bonds with an interest rate of around 4% to 5%. The government should borrow by selling more short-term bonds with an interest rate of 0.25% to 2%. Paying 2% instead of 4% on a $14 trillion debt would save $280 billion per year.

Stop printing the Internal Revenue Bulletin

Stop printing The Internal Revenue Bulletin covert it to a PDF or email it to Employees. In my unit we get the Internal Revenue Bulletin every week. I do not need it for my job because I do not deal with advance tax law. My units Internal Revenue Manual which has a less changes then the bulletin is available on-line. It would also cut time into searching for tax law information. Update: It is on-line at http://www.irs.gov/app/picklist/list/internalRevenueBulletins.html... more »

IRS / Flat Tax

Dismantle the IRS, impose a flat tax; shrinks the size of the Federal Government, simplifies the tax code, saves unfathomable amounts of paper (goes green), saves taxpayers countless hours of frustration and wasted time, saves money, increases tax revenues. This historic change would be lauded for decades. Stand up against the lobbyists that would try to block this historic and transformation advance.

Printing - Ways to Save

Show employees in each POD how to print their work double sided. I know in my POD, most people do not realize that they can print double sided just by selecting that option. Also, most of my co-workers use IDRS (or have a secreatry pull IDRS reports), but do not have the Grab Print function that allows you to print 2 IDRS screens to 1 actual piece of paper. IDRS, for those of you who are not familiar, one screen... more »

Airline Travel Pair Cost - GSA

Flying to Washington from Dallas is over $900 when using the GSA city pair flights. If you research Expedia or other travel sites the same fare can be purchased for $308 on several airlines. Even with a change fee added to the cost it would save the government over $600 per flight from Dallas to Washington. The GSA city pair while useful is no longer the most cost effective way to handle government travel cost.... more »

Eliminate child tax credit to those who don't pay US income tax

The Social Security fund is currently in crisis due to less people paying into the system and more beneficiaries (baby boomers). IRS has a tax credit for people with children who pay Social Security taxes. Their contributions are returned while the earnings record in Social Security remains the same. They, and maybe their families, will be receiving Social Security benefits based on taxes that were never paid. Moreover,... more »

Training

I was an instructor for the IRS last year. I was given an electronic course to "teach" on Identity Theft. I think we would all agree this is an important subject. I was allowed one hour for my students to work through an online course. The hour was not even enough time for them to read the material. It's no wonder these victims feel that we have no idea how to help them. It's because our employees are poorly prepared.... more »

Require all federal employees to file and pay their taxes

All federal employees should be required to file and pay all federal taxes due/owing. The IRS could obtain a database of all social security numbers of federal employees and cross-match them.

This should include all members of Congress as well.

If employees don't file/pay taxes, they should not be allowed to stay in their federal job.
