Combine the U.S. Marshall Service and Federal Bureau of Prisons

Since we have two completely seperate agencies that have similar goals, why do we insist that we need twice as many top level managers to run similar operations? What I am saying is, BOP employees are trained initially, annualy and in special training (sucs as BPT) to arrest, restrain and escort inmates on and off prison property. The BOP even has their own investigative division. The Marshalls (with all due respect)... more »

Social Security Disability benefits

I see many patients in the ER requesting the completion of paperwork to qualify for social security disability benefits. Only providers who are monitoring these parties long-term should be allowed to complete these forms to limit fraud. Second, all parties who receive social security disability benefits should be required to meet with a treatment provider and report back to SS regarding compliance and treatment progress... more »

Eliminate or Stop rewarding the LAZY Employees

I know the title may seem kind of "harsh" but we all know or work with lazy employees. When I was growing up in DC, the "must have" job was to have a job working for the Federal Goverment. Not the state or local goverenment but the federal government. I've worked in the private sector for all my life until 5/12/08. My first fed gov job was working for the NARA. Before then the word on the streets was government employees... more »

Fuel Savings for all Government Vehicles

Instead of using air in the tires of all Government Vehicles which requires inspection twice a month and will lose efficiency due to external temperature changes, use Nitrogen. Nitrogen is heavier and denser than air and does not expand and contract like air due to external temperatures from weather and climate and reduces the drag coefficient of the vehicle by reducing friction on the tires. Gas fuel savings will be... more »

Portal to Portal

BOP employees were awarded through arbitration, pay for the time it takes to change shifts and make it through security out to their car. The complaint stated that the average amount of time that employees would go over is 30 mins. So, the government had to issue checks out to every federal employee even though the complaint was mainly about COs. I've worked at two institutions and have seen more people leave early... more »

Put Inmates to Work

Empower inmates to give back to the society they burden by enabling them to work the fields where immigrant workers would.

Since our tax dollars go towards their rehabilitation and encarceration, let them work the fields at a much smaller wage.

This will lessen food prices and thus lessen the burden on those they already burden.

I think that if you give them a purpose that will help them more than if you lock them... more »

Stop Mandating Outdated, Slow Telework Laptops

Recently, people who want to telework were assigned individual Dell laptops to use, rather than using a client to log in from a person computer.

I understand that this is for security purposes, but the fact is these computers are so slow and outdated that they make teleworking a waste of time. They take up to 30 minutes to turn on and connect, grind to a halt when accessing the remote desktop, and crash often.

Green Competition for Energy Savings

To encourage inmates to conserve water and save energy, have a monthly competition which rewards the inmate housing unit which has conserved the most energy with a minimal prize, such as "first to main line," or a special "movie night," or something which does not require government expenditure. This could be left up to the CEO of each individual prison. Many inmates who are trying to "get back" at the government by... more »

Cook Supervisor

As a Cook Supervisor working for the Bureau Of Prisons, I noticed such a large amount of food being thrown away almost everyday... It also amazes me to know how many people in the United States are suffering from not eating and even dying without any nutrition. My questions is,"Why do we not have a Special Program that offers a free meal given by the Bureau Of Prisons"... Not only will this idea save money which we are... more »

Set mandatory thermostat settings in all federal buildings

It is summer outside but it is freezing in our offices. The temperature setting is at least 68 degrees and almost everybody is wearing a sweater and most people also have space heaters running in their offices. It's reverse that in the winter. If federal buildings have a mandatory temperature setting -- say 72 or 74 degrees - everyone would be comfortable -- still beats 90+ degrees outside - plus it would save millions... more »

Save over 2,000,000 pieces of paper annually

Every month the BOP prints a pay sheet for inmate pay. Since there is over 200,000 + inmates in the BOP, and the number is growing. All of the inmates are supposed to work while in prison that adds up to a lot of paper and ink. The pay is figured on the computer and the money is electronically deposited in the inmate trust fund/ IPP account. The only reason for printing the pay sheet is to show the inmate what he/she... more »

Allow Physician-assisted suicide for inmates

Many states allow Physician-assisted suicide, why not allow inmates with diagnosed with terminal illness to have a Physician-assisted them in suicide. This would cut down on medical cost and Hospice care. Also allow inmates serving life sentence to also commit Physician-assisted suicide. The BOP stops inmates from killing them self. If you wish to end your life why don’t let them end it with dignity. The population in... more »

Close Federal Prisons

The Federal Government needs to close Federal Prisons and contract to State or private prison facilities. Criminals who have been sent to Federal Prisons consider it a cake walk. This mindset needs to change and would also provide significant cost savings.
