Adopt MANY of these suggestions

Why not adopt MANY of these suggestions? Many of these are legitimate money-saving suggestions for the Federal Government.

I suggest adopting as many of these as possible to give the American Taxpayers the Federal Government that they expect and deserve.

Converting Unused Sick Leave to Annual Leave

Federal employees should have the ability to convert unused sick leave accrual to annual leave. Employees should be mandated to carry a minimum balance of unused sick leave before they would be able to convert furture hours into annual leave. For instance: an employee must have 240 hours of accrued sick leave in order to convert future hours. Conversion could be a two hour or three hour of sick leave for one hour... more »

When on welfare have the people sign a contract.

It is not the governments responcibility to pay for children when people are having them when they are in a situation where they can not afford them in the first place. Have those who are on welfare sign a contract stating they will not have anymore children then what they have. And if they have kids while on welfare they lose the check they are getting and can not get welfare again.

Criminalize sale of food stamps

There are various examples of individuals taking the food stamps and selling them at 1/2 the value (or less), in order for them to use the cash for other uses. There should also be an audit system to ensure people are spending this given resource properly. Currently there is no way to audit spending. I have been asked several times in Baltimore city grocery stores by people to buy food stamps, or they offer to pay for... more »

Save billions by using military instead of contractors

The Government pays contractors billions of dollars to do installation projects that could be accomplaished by assets that are already in place! I work in the Telecommunications field and have deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan to install communications on bases there. I also went to Iraq for 1 year as a contractor. I made more money in the one year as a contractor (over 170k) than I did the other 2 combined! And... more »

Stop Distributing Paper Pay Stubs and Paper W-2s to Employees

In my office, a huge stack of paper pay stubs come in every 2 weeks. With the availability of the myPay web site, we should not still be distributing paper pay stubs.

The myPay web site also maintains the W-2s. There is no use in mailing out these forms each year, with the printing and shipping costs.

The Federal Government would save millions of dollars if paper pay stubs and w-2s were discontinued.

get un/under-employed working to increase the tax base

Save money by paying down the debt, and don't let default happen (or else interest rates rise, and the US debt will crush us!). The equation is taxes on income are source of funding for Govt. Currently govt is working on the wrong part by thinking to reduce Soc Sec, Medicaid, which help people, while ignoring the fact that TWENTYFIVE PERCENT of workers are UN/UNDER-EMPLOYED!! (9% unemployed, 17% underemployed = 26%) Now... more »

Reduce Irrelevant Training! and get back to work.

We waste thousands of hours and dollars on training that is not relevant to the employee and not relevant to the program. Some of these classes are repeated over and over again, every year. Some examples of this are the Civil Rights and Internet Security classes. Having all employees take these classes every year is excessive and a waste of time. Other examples include ICS 100, ICS 700, ICS 800, HAZWOPER, and NARA... more »

Rollover Budget Initiative (RBI)

The Rollover Budget Initiative (RBI) would allow units to maintain their annual budgets without being penalized for not fully utilizing the last year’s budget. Any remaining money from a fiscal year would be the base amount for the next fiscal year, which will then have additional money added to meet the unit’s requested budget. For example, if a unit requests $10,000 and has $2,000 left over from the previous year, that... more »

REWARD SAVING - NOT SPENDING - ACROSS THE BOARD

The gov't system is backward and geared toward wasted spending. If you don't spend all your money in one FY, you get cut the next - so you have all kinds of wasted buying and travelling just to use the money because it's there. Why? Because next year you may be cut and the costs could be higher so you might need it. You are rewarded for wasting. Change the system to REWARD SAVING. Telecommuting saves money and time... more »

Cutting staff

Get rid of the Speical Assistants (or similar titles) to office directors. Office directors do not need special assistants. They are often highly paid for -- what? The government is supposed to work for the people of the U.S. Office directors do not need Special Assistants to do special pet projects for them. We could easily save a couple million at each large agency by getting rid of them and moving these people into... more »

Skill Database for Agencies

My idea is to create an Government skill and/or Project database for use for internal agencey projects. What problem are you trying to solve? At any given moment each agency has over a hundred individual internal projects going on. To get these completed in most cases offices solely use talent within their office. I propose that we create either a talent pool database that associates skills with each divisions employee... more »
