I am currently serving as a CCATT physician doing global air evac for the Air Force. I am shocked at the total insensitivity to cost when missions are planned. Many times a C 17 with five crew and as many as 12 medical staff will leave Andrews AFB with a single patient when there is no medical reason that the evacuation could not have been delayed until a reasonable number of patients had accumulated that needed to go to the same destination. The GPMRC needs to be tasked to consider cost and efficiency when they plan air evac missions.
