Department of Agriculture

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Web site one of the Director's duties is the oversight of natural resources to help landowners to protect soil, water, and forests. According to the New Jersey Department of Agricultural Web site, one of the duties of the Director is to conserve and develop the state's soil, water, and related natural resources on agricultural and urban lands. Every state has its own Department of Agriculture. It occurred to me that each state should be responsible for their own state's agricultural activities with U.S. Federal Government assistance. My suggestion is to consolidate the U.S. Federal Department of Agriculture activities which align with the state programs and to reduce the number of employees and eliminate those departments and activities which closely align with the State. There could be a Federal Government agency located at each the State capitol.
