Both the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) & the Military Health System (MHS) have vastly more expensive healthcare delivery costs than the private sector. Each has an annual budget of over 50 billion dollars meaning that over $2B/veteran is spent on health care in the VA and roughly $5B/MHS beneficiary. Pretty ridiculous, eh? We should merge the two healthcare delivery programs of the VHA & MHS (VA & DoD) to try to reduce billions of inefficiencies in the two separate systems that treat many of the same patients. A "carve out" should be retained for "warfighter care and deployed medical operations".
