The Paperwork Reduction Act requires OMB approval for any survey of the public that involves asking more than 10 people the same questions, even in a focus group setting. The process that OMB has put in place requires a large amount of paperwork (get the irony?) and several months to process and approve a request, creating an enormous obstacle to obtaining information we need to serve the public better. A review should be undertaken to streamline the process, or amend the legislation if necessary.
