Cigarettes and other Tobacco products have no known health benefits. Their use by military members has no benefit and works against many other savings-related priorities such as healthcare for active and retired personnel.
The DOD should prohibit the sale of tobacco products on all of its installations, especially outside of combat zones. It will take a long time to eradicate tobacco use from the military, but it is the right thing to do for our personnel and our nation.
Removing tobacco products from the shelves of DOD installations should be part of a phased approach designed to eliminate the use of tobacco products by all military members.
Alternatively, those who choose to use tobacco products should expect exclusion from health care in retirement.
