My idea can be enacted by the President in an hour. Have the entire Executive Branch streamline the procurement of Federal vehicles by limiting them to sedan models with a four cilinder engine only and light trucks limited to six cilinder engines only. Currently all American car manufacturers build fuel efficient vehicles with these features, even full size, 4x4 light trucks. Limiting procurement of vehicles to these models ensures that the Federal Government will be saving hundreds of millions of gallons of gasoline per year, contributing to ending our dependance of foreign oil. At the same time, all Government agencies will have vehicles that are cost efficient to maintain (unlike hybrids) which are more than adequate to perform their individual missions. The President could issue this as an executive order and have it enacted immediately.
