Smart Phones for Field Work

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

Employees who regularly conduct field work might benefit from having a government smart phone (~$150 up front, $30/mo data). Being able to check email, the weather, locations of nearby hardware stores or gas stations, being able to navigate between field sites, etc etc... these are all valuable tools that together could save a lot of time and effort. Only those employees who spend sufficient time in the field and whose work justifies this kind of expense should be eligible. The government could save further money by subsidizing personal smart phone plans rather than purchasing government phones and plans (i.e., I'll use my own phone in the field if the gov't pays $15 toward my data plan each month).
