I am not exactly sure how much money this would save across the Federal Government, but I think it could be in the millions/billions. If a policy was instituted that all Federal employees would be required to shut down their computers Monday through Thursday evening when not in use it would save a ton of money. I know that the IT folks generally push through patches and other updates at night, but these updates could be scheduled over the weekends. Conversely, employees could keep their computers on in the evenings when they leave work Monday through Thursday to push updates and patches through and then cut off their computers when they leave work for the weekend.
