Every month the BOP prints a pay sheet for inmate pay. Since there is over 200,000 + inmates in the BOP, and the number is growing. All of the inmates are supposed to work while in prison that adds up to a lot of paper and ink. The pay is figured on the computer and the money is electronically deposited in the inmate trust fund/ IPP account. The only reason for printing the pay sheet is to show the inmate what he/she got paid for the month and to review their work performance. This can also be done on the computer in ISDS Inmate Skills Development which is accessed by Councilors and unit teams.
2 million pieces of paper per year in ten years over 20 million in waist and the number of Federal prisoners is growing.
