Department of Defense

Save billions by using military instead of contractors

The Government pays contractors billions of dollars to do installation projects that could be accomplaished by assets that are already in place! I work in the Telecommunications field and have deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan to install communications on bases there. I also went to Iraq for 1 year as a contractor. I made more money in the one year as a contractor (over 170k) than I did the other 2 combined! And the sad part is, there is so much fraud and waste when dealing with civilian companies that the savings would be substantial if the military were used instead. However, what we see is the continued downsizing of the military, and the huge growth of civilian companies contracting to do the work! Expand the technical jobs in the military and there will be a huge savings in the defense budget.
