GSA has contracts with many different vendors for services. Recently, we updated our phone system and were automatically setup with GSA for our phone bills. The bills were very high and the first couple were incorrect. We were in constant contact with GSA and they let us know that we could try to negotiate our own deal with the phone company. When we did, our monthly rate went from $850 to $235, our long distance rate is less than $.01 a minute, which is lower that our agency negotiated rate.
If every office took a little extra time to see what they may be able to negotiate locally, it could be a great cost savings over just using the GSA contracts.
