Reduce Occupancy & Travel Expense via Telework

New leases are being explored for many local offices because the merger of agencies means seating is not adequate for all assigned employees. Instead, offices should be seeking to reduce the overall footprint even with the newly assigned staff. Telework should be increased to reduce occupancy expense and travel expense and should be encouraged by all managers rather than being inconsistently applied. The focus of the telework initiative should be on a specific level, such as 25%, rather than focusing on an increase. Telework is a benefit to the employee, reduces expenses for the employing agency, and allows agencies to assign the best resources to the toughest jobs while still keeping travel costs low and avoiding relocation expenses.
