We waste thousands of hours and dollars on training that is not relevant to the employee and not relevant to the program. Some of these classes are repeated over and over again, every year. Some examples of this are the Civil Rights and Internet Security classes. Having all employees take these classes every year is excessive and a waste of time. Other examples include ICS 100, ICS 700, ICS 800, HAZWOPER, and NARA records management. We have important jobs to do and we can not waste time with these training classes that have no relevance to the work. The savings in wasted hours devoted to these classes would be tremendous. Another benefit would be improvement in morale. Employees would feel much better and do their work more efficiently if they were not burdened with training that does not relate to their work. Training that is relevant to the work can be very positive to the employee and the organization. On the other hand, irrelevant training is seen as a waste of time and is very irritating and bothersome to the work force. Training for the sake of training is not a good thing. Stop wasting time and money with classes that do not relate to the work.
