Employees that accumulate sick leave are dedicated to their work. Employees that call in for any little reason are not so dedicated. In fact employees have a choice to use annual leave or sick leave when they call in for emergencies or for sick leave. Recognize dedicated employees by providing incentives like a forty hour time off award every time an employee goes over 1,000 hours, 2, 000 hours, and so on. This will save a lot of money in wasted overtime and decrease job stress because some employees just continue abuse their sick leave which makes it harder on the organization. The Navy use to give civililian employees a pin with a small diamond for accumulated sick leave. I recieved one of those pins for having accumulated over 1,000 hours of sick leave, and I felt great about it. Just another way to motivate your employees.
