Each year hundreds of public hearings are held to support public input on draft environmental impact statements (EIS) and environmental assessments (EA) Often the public cannot attend due to schedules and travel distance. An option that should be pursued for each public hearing is seeting up regional or national webinars so that the public can sign up and listen to the discussion and also provide their comments/input on the EIS or EA. Webinars can be set up in a way that limits the number of individuals as well as allows one person at a time to talk. The use of webinars will not only foster greater pubic input and awareness but will also save costs of government travel and because the session can be recorded will save transcription costs. Due to low cost, multiple webinar sessions can be set up locally and regionally. This will also save agency costs for room rental.
