Penalize Telecom Providers Who Are Not Responsive to Outages

My mother is elderly and relies on her terrestrial (land) line for emergencies. She does not want a cell phone. Three times this year her phone line has had problems. However for each outage, the Telecom provider would not respond for over 5 days. In one instance, even though the repair was scheduled on the 5th day, no one from the Telecom company showed up. However, this same Telecom company can provide new cell phone service immediately via the web in the middle of the night.

 

The FCC needs to provide a better service of monitoring Telecom responsiveness to individuals who are relying on their land line as their only means of communication. This is especially true when the individual has medical problems.
