Every year thousands of medals, plaques and trophies are given out to federal employees in recognition of noteworthy efforts. While this is nice it is not necessary and creates a lot of waste and cost pecious federal dollars that could be spent elsewhere. Consider a program of "virtual" awards, perhaps a page for each Agency/Division with pictures of the awardees (from award ceremonies), and a written description of their achievement. Rotate through the awards on Agency homepages highlighting individuals or teams throughout the year. Also simplify the nomination process for awards to reduce the amount of time it takes for supervisors to complete them (one-pagers instead of multi-page.) Too much time is spent on this process.
