Social Security Administration

Incentive pay for Prisoners

Currently, SSA pays incentive payments to state and local correctional and mental health institutions for reporting inmate information to SSA. Under

SI 02310.088 SSA's Incentive Payment Program, an incentive payment of $400 is made to an agency when the information received results in suspension of benefits. Many times, the suspension is for for a month or 2. $400 PER PRISONER is simply a high fee to pay for information that is sent and received electronically and requires less than a few minutes of the local agencies time to verify. These should be reduced DRAMATICALLY.
