Each day, taxpayers are defrauded of thousands of hours of productivity because managers are not holding their staff accountable for timely attendance. For example, for a facility with 1,000 employees, if everyone was 15 minutes late or left 15 minutes early, that equates to approximately 65,000 hours (hope my calculations are right) per year in lost manhours. At many agencies, there are security cameras throughout. Leadership should pick a day once week for a month and see how many staff are strolling in late or leaving early just to assess how they can improve attendance. At this facility, executive leadership as well as the appropriate service chief and asst service chief were informed of staff routinely strolling in late since then the staff are still strolling in late.
