Why do so many agencies have to be on top of one another in DC, leasing large buildings at high fees? When leases come due, or possible early terminiation of leases, agencies should use desk sharing and telework and efficient space planning to take up less physical space. Why do all agency staff have to work in DC? Does every employee go to the Hill daily? I doubt it. Move agencies out from DC, decentralize - move into smaller spaces requiring lower rent, less upkeep, and lower utility bills - buy the buildings so the gov't isn't paying all that rent and increases assets. There's no reason all these government agencies need to be leasing large buildings with large open spaces and extra empty offices and huge maintenance cost.
