Not all pilots require an FAA medical certifcate to fly. Light Sport pilots only need a drivers license. Balloon and glider pilots don't even need that. All of the studes I've seen show no statistical difference in accidents caused by medical deficiencies between those pilots who currently need an FAA 3rd class medical certifcate and those who do not. Therefore, the 3rd class medical certificate is supefluous and wasteful of the public's funds to get the certificate every 1 to 3 years and is wasteful of government funds to process them.
